Since 1987 the A Very Special Christmas series of holiday albums has raised more than $100 million to benefit the Special Olympics. It is considered the most successful benefit recording series in music history. Each volume has included a wide range of contemporary recording artists. The seventh volume was released in 2009, and the first collection is listed as one of the top Christmas albums of all time.
This year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first album in the series, there will be two Very Special Christmas collections released. One titled A Very Special Christmas 25th Anniversary will feature contemporary pop and country stars. The second titled A Very Special Christmas: Bringing Peace On Earth will be oriented to Christian music audiences. The first collection will feature such stars as Christina Aguilera, Michael Buble, Jason Mraz, and Train. Both albums will be released October 16, 2012.
