This week Ellie Goulding's breakthrough US hit "Lights" climbs to #1 at mainstream pop radio in the US. It has been a long 23 week rise to the top on the chart. That matches Pink and her hit "U + Ur Hand" for the longest climb to the top by a woman. It puts them into a tie for the second longest overall just behind Cee Lo Green's "F**k You" at 25 weeks.

"Lights" only reached #49 at home in the UK for Ellie Goulding. However, she had two other singles reach the top 5 before her breakthrough in the US. "Lights" has been certified two times platinum for sales over two million in the US. This week it will be in a battle for #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe," Katy Perry's "Wide Awake," and Flo Rida's "Whistle" for #1. Ellie Goulding has also announced that her next album Halcyon will be released October 9, 2012.
