Mariah Carey Attempts To Salvage "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" With Boxing Themed Video

Mariah Carey Triumphant Video

At this point it is impossible to see "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" as anything but a significant disappointment as the lead single for Mariah Carey's upcoming 14th studio album. She is one of the top pop stars of all time, and, in the original single mix, she is reduced to sounding like a featured artist on her own record. The new music video directed by Mariah Carey's husband Nick Cannon seems to add to the perception as the clip seems to be primarily about guest rapper Meek Mill who portrays a boxer. We see a significant amount of Mariah Carey cavorting and singing in the boxing ring, and the entire music video is bathed in a gold tint. However, it seems that the focus in a boxing match is usually on the boxers...not on the girl in the ring between rounds.

Calling "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" a commercial disappointment would be a significant understatement. So far the song has missed the Billboard Hot 100 entirely and just barely edged onto the R&B chart at #97. The primary criticism of the song has been that we don't hear enough of the star. When one of the world's top pop stars releases a song called "Triumphant," we expect the star to sound "triumphant." This single and music video bring to mind something more appropriately titled "Afterthought."

I actually think its a great ‘teaser’ Urban song like what Mariah did with ‘U Make Me Wanna’ in 2004 by Jadakiss before releasing ‘Emancipation of Mimi’ in 2005.
Triumphant (Get Em) is not expected to be on her new CD which is coming out in March of 2012. This is just a ‘teaser’ promo hit for what’s to come.
The dance versions (Pulse Mix) is #42 on Dance Chart…the song will move up.
Triumphant (Get Em) will be on all charts soon after her appearance on Sept. 5th NFL show.
It’s a good song. It’s actually moving up on the Rap Chart!
Don’t count it out yet.

The song is moving up the Rap Chart at least! It’s also on the Dance Chart at #42! I expect Triumphant (Get Em) will be on other charts after her Sept. 5th Football gig!
She normally releases an Urban track before the main course like she with ‘U Make Me Wanna’ with Jadakiss in 2004 before releasing ‘Emancipation of Mimi’ which had tons of good songs on it.
I expect her new CD which comes out in March of 2013 won’t disappoint.

@stiffy says are you serious? You are delusional. “Triumphant” IS the lead single from her new CD, it had a major release with remixes and a video. This is the lead single so don’t try an act like this is a “teaser” to anything. This is Nicole Schrzingger from PCD all over again. Mariah is done – get over it and deal with the fact that Mariah’s popularity is over.

Anyway, Triumphant (Get Em) is not intended for her new CD that comes out in March of 2013. She’s not releasing singles from her new disc til next year. This is just ‘teaser’ promo single.
Get em, Bette Davis ‘Eyes’, they’ll unhease you, they’ll ‘tease’ you!

Actually, this WAS intended to be the lead single, but it’ll most likely be quickly relabeled as a buzz single. In any case, Mariah is far from over. Every time her career was thought to be done- that’s three times now- she’s bounced back. And let’s face it- even if her career is done (which I doubt) she still sings better than any other pop-wannabes out there. Every single one- Rihanna, Gaga, Katy, they all pale next to Mimi.
