27 years ago Aimee Mann recorded and released the top 10 pop single "Voices Carry" as a part of the band 'Til Tuesday. It is an 80s pop classic. Much of the credit for the song's success was given to a powerful accompanying music video. The clip presented an independent woman ultimately standing up for herself and her choice of a music career. The band split up by the end of the 1980s, and Aimee Mann began a critically acclaimed solo career.
Now Aimee Mann is revisiting that early success. Her new album Charmer hits stores today and she has released a clever new music video for the song "Labrador." It is presented as a mockumentary about the 'Til Tuesday video for "Voices Carry." In the clip, against the wishes of Aimee Mann, a decision is made to recreate the classic music video scene by scene. The new music video was directed by comedian Tom Scharpling and features Mad Men's Jon Hamm. You will also see original 'Til Tuesday drummer Michael Hausman who is now Aimee Mann's manager. Check out both music videos below.
