Plan B has to settle for the honor of being nominated for a Mercury Prize with his critically acclaimed set Ill Manors. Instead, alternative indie pop group Alt-J took home the prestigious award for their debut album An Awesome Wave. The group first came together at Leeds University in 2012. The group's name represents the command on a Macintosh keyboard to produce a triangle on the screen. A self-titled debut EP in late 2011 led to the full-length album An Awesome Wave. It reached #19 on the UK album chart and included three top 10 indie singles. Alt-J are acclaimed for pulling elements from a wide range of genres including folk, rock, hip hop, and electronica as well as intelligent lyrics featuring allusions to a variety of movies and literature.
