Celebrating 60 Years of UK Pop Singles Charts

On November 14, 1952, American crooner Al Martino was ranked #1 in the first UK pop singles chart published in the music industry newspaper New Musical Express, also known simply as NME. Through the years the official charts appeared in a range of publications. Today the custody of the charts is maintained by the Official Charts Company. Today approximately 3.5 million singles are sold every week. The Official Charts Company estimates that 3.7 billion singles have been sold overall since the chart began in 1952. In celebration of the 60 years of charting music the Official Charts Company compiled lists of the best selling singles of all time. Check out the top 10 below.
