2012 was the year of One Direction and Ellie Goulding in breakthrough chart-topping UK pop artists. If all goes according to plan 2013 will be the year Olly Murs tops the US charts for the first time. He gained a toehold earlier this year when the song "Heart Skips a Beat" climbed to #25 at mainstream pop radio and edged on to the Billboard Hot 100 at #96. The next single "Troublemaker" featuring Flo Rida hit digital stores in the US today. It is the first from his third UK album Right Place Right Time, already a #1 smash hit there. The album is now scheduled for an April 9, 2013 US release. This gives plenty of time for "Troublemaker" to catch on and it's possible we might see some US concert dates planned.
Of course Olly Murs is not ignoring his UK fans. He is set to open for Robbie Williams on his Take the Crown tour next summer. He has two consecutive #1 albums at home and his first two albums are both certified double platinum. They have generated four #1 hit singles. The success makes Olly Murs the biggest male artist to emerge from X Factor. Keep Olly Murs in mind as the new year begins. At this time in 2013 he may be a new pop household name in the US.
