A strong argument could be made that the two top pop stars of the moment are Taylor Swift and Adele. Who is the best? Unfortunately, comparing them seems a bit like comparing apples to oranges since the musical styles are so very different from each other. However, the pair are now squaring off in the field of competition...for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. It is not guaranteed that either will win, but logic would seem to suggest they are the odds on favorites.
Both nominated songs are commercial successes. Adele's title song from the James Bond film Skyfall is nominated. It has been a #1 pop hit single in many countries around the world and a top 10 hit in most of the rest. Taylor Swift's collaboration with the contemporary folk duo Civil Wars "Safe and Sound" comes from the soundtrack to The Hunger Games. It reached the top 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been certified platinum for sales. "Safe and Sound" has received two Grammy Award nominations. The remaining competition would appear a bit weaker, but well-known names like Jon Bon Jovi and Keith Urban are also nominated along with a song from the long awaited film version of the musical adaptation of Les Miserables. Be sure to watch the Golden Globes award ceremony January 13, 2013 on NBC to see who is the happy winner.
