The Recording Academy announced today that producer and record executive L.A. Reid will be celebrated at this year's pre-Grammy party hosted by Clive Davis. He will receive the annual President's Award given to a music executive in recognition of significant contributions to the music industry. Recording Academy president Neil Portnow said, "We are delighted and excited to pay tribute to this luminary who has shaped the contemporary music landscape with his passion, diversity, dedication, and musical judgement." L.A. Reid is given credit for being instrumental in launching the careers of such top pop stars as Pink, Avril Lavigne, Usher, Justin Bieber, and Rihanna as well as revitalizing the careers of Mariah Carey and Bon Jovi.
Last year's pre-Grammy party was held under a cloud of sadness due to the death earlier in the day of Whitney Houston, a key protege of Clive Davis. However, the event went on as planned for the 37th year. The annual event features performances by a wide range of musicians in attendance in addition to the presentation of the President's Award. This year's pre-Grammy party will take place February 9, 2013.
