Does it seem like forever since a hit song was nominated for an Academy Award? The last time a top 10 pop hit was up for the Best Song Oscar it was 2003 and Eminem's landmark "Lose Yourself" from the 8 Mile soundtrack took home the award. "Lose Yourself" spent 12 weeks at #1 on the pop chart. Today Adele's hit "Skyfall" from the movie of the same name was announced as one of the nominees for Best Song. It is also considered to be a heavy favorite for the award. "Skyfall" has climbed as high as #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 while hitting #1 on pop singles charts in many countries around the world. It has sold more than a million copies in the US. Three James Bond songs have been nominated for the award in the past, but none of them won. An Adele victory would be a first for the music from the venerable series. This year's other Best Song nominees include "Before My Time" from the documentary Chasing Ice, "Everybody Needs a Best Friend" from Ted, "Pi's Lullaby" from Life Of Pi, and "Suddenly," the new song written for the movie of the Broadway musical version of Les Miserables.
