Amid rumors that her first baby may actually arrive today, Shakira's virtual baby shower for charity is fully underway. Along with her boyfriend, Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique, Shakira is celebrating the baby's arrival by encouraging fans to donate to UNICEF's efforts to help needy children worldwide. The pair released the statement, "Every couple that's expecting a baby shares our same dreams and hopes for their children. However, many don't have the same opportunities we do to give them a happy childhood free of preventable and easily cured illnesses. Together we can change that." Those wishing to participate may access the baby shower site and purchase such gifts as mosquito netting, polio vaccines, and food for malnourished children.
Shakira is one of the world's biggest pop stars. Four studio albums and four singles have reached the top 10 in the US. She is an even bigger star on Latin charts recording material in both Spanish and English.
