For the first time in nearly two years a hip hop act has hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with their first chart single. Indie rapper Macklemore and his producer Ryan Lewis will be sitting at the top with "Thrift Shop" when the chart is published tomorrow morning. The last hip hop artist to hit the chart peak with their debut single was Wiz Khalifa who topped the chart with "Black and Yellow" back in February 2011. It has been a 16 week climb for the song that is featured on the #2 hit album The Heist. "Thrift Shop's" humorous video has more than 60 million views on YouTube and the song has sold more than two million copies. The success of the song has spread into multiple radio formats hitting #1 at R&B and rap radio while climbing into the top 20 on the alternative songs chart as well. "Thrift Shop" has had international success as well. It was one of the top 10 singles of the year in 2012 in Australia.
