48 years ago Petula Clark ensured herself a permanent place in pop music legend when her recording of "Downtown" hit #1 on the pop chart in the US and became an international smash hit. Now, at age 80, she is returning to the spotlight with a new single "Cut Copy Me" and a full-length studio album Lost In You due in late February. The ethereal single is instantly catchy and Petula Clark is in great voice. The song is also inspiring dance remixes. In a promotional video for the album she sings a portion of a cover of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" and a completely reworked, somewhat wistful, take on "Downtown."
Petula Clark is given credit for selling over 60 million records worldwide. She earned six top 10 pop hits here in the US and 11 at home in the UK. "Cut Copy Me" first appeared on an EP released last year in France. "Downtown" won a Grammy Award for Best Rock and Roll Song as well as the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song of the Year. Petula Clark's recording of "Downtown" was placed in the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2003.
