One of the biggest surprise hit albums in recent months has been the soundtrack to the hit film Pitch Perfect. The album really took off in sales once the movie was released on DVD just before Christmas 2012. A key song from the movie was "Cups" performed by actress Anna Kendrick in the film. It lasts just over one minute in the film, but the performance with the assistance of a plastic cup is a key memorable moment. The song has climbed as high as #64 on the Billboard Hot 100. It may now climb higher since a remixed and extended version of "Cups" is now having an impact at mainstream top 40 radio. To help promote the song a new music video of Anna Kendrick performing "Cups" has been released. It is true to the spirt and charm of the song.
The song "Cups" aka "You're Gonna Miss Me" first gained widespread exposure from a single by the British band Lulu and the Lampshades. The song's origin dates back to the 1930s and old time country music. In 1937, the group J.E. Mainer's Mountaineers recorded and released "Miss Me When I'm Gone." It was followed by Charlie Monroe's Boys' "You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone" in 1938. Check out Anna Kendrick's new video below.
