We are now just three weeks away from the first new music released by Lady Gaga since 2011. On August 19, 2013, her new single "Applause," the first from the upcoming Artpop collection, officially hits stores. Yesterday, as part of an interview published by Women's Wear Daily, Lady Gaga revealed the artwork for "Applause." (at right) It is a photograph shot by her creative collaborators Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. They also directed the music video that will accompany the single.
"Applause" was co-written with DJ White Shadow who was one of the writers of "Born This Way." When asked about the song, Lady Gaga said, "I'll tell you that it is very fun, and that it's full of happiness, because what I'm saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me. Give me that thing that I love. Put your hands up, make them touch." With her first two albums The Fame with its Fame Monster expansion and Born This Way, Lady Gaga released a string of 11 consecutive top 10 pop hits broken only by "Marry the Night." "Applause" will appear just a week before Lady Gaga performs at the MTV Video Music Awards and it will ultimately be followed by the release of Artpop on November 11, 2013.
