The Kennedy Center Honors are one of the highest cultural awards that can be bestowed in the US. This year's deserving winners are pop legend Billy Joel, rock guitarist Carlos Santana, jazz master Herbie Hancock, actress Shirley MacLaine and opera singer Martina Arroyo. Billy Joel will join a select group of pop musicians receiving the award including Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, and Neil Diamond. The winners will be celebrated in a gala performance December 8, 2013 at Washington DC's Kennedy Center. The event will be broadcast on CBS TV December 29, 2013.

Carlos Santana has won 10 Grammy Awards, and he is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. 12 Santana albums have reached the top 10 on the album chart including the 15 times platinum Supernatural.
