Green Day's Powerful "Working Class Hero" Video to Save Darfur

One of the quieter but still powerful moments of this year's American Idol finale was Green Day's performance of John Lennon's "Working Class Hero." Their recording of the song is part of an album of new versions of John Lennon songs titled Instant Karma which will be in stores June 12, 2007. All proceeds from the album will go to Amnesty International's efforts to save Darfur, a region of Sudan, from genocide.

This week Green Day released their video to accompany the song, and it is a powerful one. The video's director, Samuel Bayer, is no stranger to powerful videos. He put together My Chemical Romance's "Welcome to the Black Parade," Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends," and Nirvana's classic "Smells Like Teen Spirit" among many others. The video includes powerful footage of residents of Darfur telling their own story.
