Top 10 New Pop Songs March 18, 2014


Sia Furler, songwriter and voice behind such hits as Rihanna's "Diamonds," David Guetta's "Titanium," and Flo Rida's "Wild Ones," leads this week's top new pop songs with her solo effort "Chandelier."

1. Sia - "Chandelier"

In recent years, Sia has become one of the most in demand pop songwriters helping write "Diamonds" for Rihanna, "Titanium" for David Guetta, "Perfume" for Britney Spears, and many others.  Now she is picking up her solo career once again with this first single from an upcoming sixth solo album.  


2. Prince - "FALLINLOVE2NITE" featuring Zooey Deschanel

At age 55, Prince is a musical living legend.  He has sold over 100 million records worldwide.  "FALLINLOVE2NITE" was introduced on the TV show New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel.  The song is also expected to be included on an upcoming solo album with the working title Plectrum Electrum.


3. Cody Simpson - "Surfboard"

Australian teen pop star Cody Simpson is a participant on the new season of Dancing With the Stars.  His most recent album Surfers Paradise broke into the top 10 of the US album chart.  This new single "Surfboard" includes elements of dubstep in the mix.


4. Calvin Harris - "Summer"

"Summer" is the first single from Calvin Harris following his massive international hit album 18 Months.  It is the first single featuring his own vocals since his song "Feel So Close."  It will not be officially released in the UK until April 27, 2014.


5. Karmin - "Pulses"

Electronic pop duo Karmin broke into the top 20 of the US pop singles chart in 2012 with their single "Brokenhearted."  Their album Hello also broke into the top 20.  "Pulses" is the title single of their follow up collection which hits stores next week.

6. Rixton - "Me and My Broken Heart"

Rixton are a pop group from Manchester, UK.  Their sound, which owes a debt to Maroon 5, is breaking fast on pop radio in the US. They have connected with Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun and expect to release their debut album later this year.

7. Ellie Goulding - "Beating Heart"

Ellie Goulding's newest single is included on the soundtrack to the film Divergent.  The first single released from the soundtrack was Zedd's "Find You."  Skrillex, M83, and Snow Patrol are among other artists included on the soundtrack.  The film was released March 11, 2014 in the US.

8. Colt Ford - "The High Life" featuring Chase Rice

Jason Farris Brown, aka Colt Ford, has hit the top 10 of the country albums chart with his last three releases.  His most recent, 2012's Declaration Of Independence, broke into the top 5 of the overall album chart.  "The High Life" is the first single from the upcoming album Thanks For Listening.  Guest vocalist Chase Rice co-wrote Florida Georgia Line's huge hit "Cruise."

9. Nickel Creek - "21st Of May"

Celebrated bluegrass trio Nickel Creek went on indefinite hiatus in 2007 after releasing two top 20 charting albums, having one of their albums certified platinum, and winning a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.  The upcoming album A Dotted Line will be released April 1, 2014 and coincide with the group's 25th anniversary.

10. Sabrina Carpenter - "Can't Blame a Girl For Trying"

14 year old Sabrina Carpenter is a star of the upcoming Disney TV series Girl Meets World.  Her recording "Smile" released in 2012 charted on Radio Disney.  "Can't Blame a Girl For Trying" is her first official single.
