Vanessa Hudgens released her first solo album V back in 2006 hot on the heels of her success in the High School Musical phenomenon. The set generated the minor hit single "Come Back to Me," a charming bit of pop fluff. Now she has returned, but there are few signs she has grown as a performer. Identified is stuffed full of derivative takes on the work of other hot artists.
Released July 2008 by Hollywood Records.

The Disney factory knows how to invest in creating a sound that on surface seems like it will be a hit. However, there is a certain soulfulness lacking throughout most of Identified. Dr. Luke and Vanessa Hudgens seem to hit a promising groove on the album's first track, "Last Night," as she sounds soulful and her vocals are settling into more adult territory. Unfortunately, the remaining tracks are suffused with a small, almost child-like vocal that fails to communicate any definition as an artist.

Who Is Vanessa Hudgens?
Identified should put Vanessa Hudgens in a quandary. This second album opens with just 2/3 of the sales of her first. It's very difficult for listeners to grab on to a definition of Hudgens as an artist. If a 3rd album is forthcoming, coherency the next time should be the approach. A slapped together patchwork of imitations will satisfy few pop music fans.
