Canadian band the Guess Who recorded the song "American Woman" in response to the culture shock they experienced touring in large cities in the US. It was released in 1970 and climbed all the way to #1 on the US pop singles chart remaining there for three weeks. It was the biggest hit single of the band's career. Lenny Kravitz won a Grammy Award in 2000 for Best Male Rock Performance with his version of "American Woman."
