Joshua Ledet was born April 9, 1992 in Westlake, Louisiana. He began singing in church at the age of 3. Joshua Ledet writes songs and lyrics for and performs at the House of Prayer Holiness Church. He is currently a student at Lamar University.

Joshua Ledet auditioned for season 10 of American Idol, but he did not make it past the auditions stage. However, from the beginning in season 11 he has been one of the favorites to advance to the finale. He has been called "Mantasia" for the power of his voice compared with former champion Fantasia. Joshua Ledet's performance of "When a Man Loves a Woman" caused judge Jennifer Lopez to gush that it was the best performance she had ever seen on American Idol. Heading into the top 5 performance night he has finished in the bottom 3 only twice.
