January 31, 1981 - Memphis, Tennessee.

Mickey Mouse and NSYNC:

Justin Timberlake's first significant achievement in the entertainment business came as a member of the New Mickey Mouse Club in the 1990's along with other future stars such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and J.C. Chasez. Justin Timberlake and J.C. Chasez were both members of NSYNC, one of the top boy bands of the late 1990's and early 2000's. When NSYNC went on hiatus in 2002, Timberlake headed forward with a solo career.

Quote from Justin Timberlake:

In interview with Time For Kids about why he is a singer:

"Ever since I was a really little boy I always sang. So I figured out that that was sort of my calling. I didn't really have to think about it because I knew it was always there, that it's what I should be doing."

Justin Timberlake - Justified:

Justin Timberlake's debut as a solo artist came with a live performance of his first single "Like I Love You" at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards. This was followed by the release of the album Justified in November, 2002. "Like I Love You" just missed the pop top 10, but later singles "Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body" both reached the top 5. Justified peaked at #2 on the album chart. It ultimately sold over 3.5 million copies in the U.S.

Guest Appearances:

Justin Timberlake has been a prolific guest artist. Selected appearances:

  • Brian McKnight - "My Kind of Girl" - 2001
  • Britney Spears - "What It's Like to Be Me" - 2001
  • Nelly - "Work It" - 2002
  • Black Eyed Peas - "Where Is the Love?" - 2003
  • Snoop Dogg and Charlie Wilson - "Signs" - 2005
  • Sergio Mendes, will.i.am, and Pharoahe Monch - "Loose Ends" - 2006

The Super Bowl Controversy:

The biggest controversy in Justin Timberlake's career erupted following the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show. During a performance with Janet Jackson, he tore off a portion of her costume as planned, but, unfortunately, more of the costume came off than intended briefly baring one of Jackson's breasts. Justin Timberlake said to the press that he was "sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction" which instantly added the term "wardrobe malfunction" as a national catch phrase.

Justin Timberlake Trivia Fact:

Justin Timberlake was a contestant on the national talent search show Star Search at the age of 11.

Justin Timberlake Brings Sexy Back:

Justin Timberlake's second solo album FutureSex / LoveSounds was released on September 12, 2006. Among the producers working on the album were Timbaland, will.i.am, and Rick Rubin. The first single "SexyBack," with the declaration "I'm bringing sexy back!" was released to pop radio July 7, 2006.

FutureSex / LoveSounds and Collaborations:

The album FutureSex / LoveSounds was a massive success selling over 4 million copies in the US. It included 5 top 10 pop singles. Justin Timberlake also collaborated with Timbaland and Nelly Furtado on the score-settling hit single "Give It To Me." In the spring of 2008, he returned with the single "4 Minutes," a duet with Madonna.

Justin Timberlake spent time exploring an acting career in the years following FutureSex / LoveSounds before announcing in January 2013 that he was ready to return to music.
