The American Music Awards were established in 1973 by Dick Clark as a competitor to the Grammy Awards. Now in their 33rd year they are recognized as one of the 3 most prestigious pop music awards events, along with the Grammy Awards, and the Billboard Music Awards, in the U.S. The American Music Awards winners are determined by a poll of music customers. They are the only major pop music awards determined by music fans.
The 2005 American Music Awards will be hosted by Cedric, the Entertainer on Tuesday, November 22, 2005. They will be broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California at 8 p.m. ET on ABC Television.
