Complete Guide to the 2006 American Music Awards

34th Annual Event

By Bill Lamb, About.com

The American Music Awards were established in 1973 by Dick Clark as a competitor to the Grammy Awards. Now in their 34th year they are recognized as one of the 3 most prestigious pop music awards events, along with the Grammy Awards, and the Billboard Music Awards, in the U.S. The American Music Awards winners are determined by a poll of music customers. They are the only major pop music awards determined by music fans.

The 2006 American Music Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday, November 21, 2006. They will be broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California at 8 p.m. ET on ABC Television.
