The MTV Video Music Awards were established in 1984 to celebrate the best in music video. Since that time the event has emerged as one of the 4 most important pop music awards ceremonies in the US of the year.
The 2006 MTV Video Music Awards ceremony will take place Thursday, August 31, 2006. The event will be hosted by Jack Black. It will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City at 8 p.m. ET on MTV. A pre-show will be broadcast beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET on MTV including red carpet arrivals and performances by Fergie and My Chemical Romance. Additional footage from backstage will be broadcast on MTV.com.
