2006 MTV Video Music Awards

The Wrapup

By Bill Lamb, About.com

Panic! At the Disco© Fueled By Ramen

Christina Aguilera demonstrated how to "Hurt" with tremendous class, Panic! At the Disco brought their "Sins" to the stage in smashing style, and Beyonce did indeed ring the alarm. However, possibly the most memorable element of the evening was the continuing string of shocked winners. Fan voting made it an unpredictable night of results with no one dominating the proceedings. Few would have predicted that Panic! At the Disco would walk off with the biggest award of the night, Video of the Year.

The best innovation was MTV's new coverage of backstage proceedings online. The voyeur in us all got a fascinating eyeful much of the evening. This is an element that should be continued in the future.
