Predictions Of Winners MTV Video Music Awards 2006

23rd Annual Event

By , About.com Guide

New Artist

  • Angels and Airwaves - The Adventure - The futuristic visual elements of the video are very interesting, but I think the competition in the category is just too stiff for them to take home the moonman.

  • Avenged Sevenfold - Bat Country - This is a great rock video and should not be counted out in this category, but it's not my pick to win.

  • Chris Brown - Run It! - Chris Brown would be the strong pick of most pre-teens, but the West Side Story-ish vibe of the video isn't strong enough for some of the other videos here.

  • James Blunt - You're Beautiful - James Blunt gave us some of the most memorable images of the year, and I think he will come close, but the Blunt backlash will ultimately be his downfall.

  • Panic! At the Disco - I Write Sins Not Tragedies - I think it will be a good night for the guys in Panic!, and they will walk off with another trophy.

  • Rihanna - SOS - Rihanna's strength is not her videos. This interpretation of "SOS" is a bit too frantic for many viewers.

Video of the Year

  • Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man - This is a big budget video, and the song is fantastic, but the whole extravaganza comes off a little flat visually.

  • Madonna - Hung Up - Madonna's back catalog of videos will lead many voters to the obvious conclusion that she has done much better than this in the past.

  • Panic! At the Disco - I Write Sins Not Tragedies - I think Panic! At the Disco will take home awards from the ceremonies, but this isn't one of them. They need a few more years to challenge for the top award.

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dani California - Red Hot Chili Peppers will be a sentimental favorite, and they have not won Video of the Year before, but my senses tell me this isn't their year either.

  • Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean - Hips Don't Lie - It's colorful, sexy, and the message "No fighting!" remains tremendously relevant in the world today. This may not be one of the most innovative winners of the award, but Shakira knows how to please the crowds.
