Best New Artist
- 3OH!3 - "Don't Trust Me" - The two guys that make up 3OH!3 do deserve the award for sheer audacity in creation of their song and video.
- Drake - "Best I Ever Had" - Romance doesn't get any sweeter than this, and Drake is a very appealing newcomer, but he is still overshadowed in this category.
- Kid Cudi - "Day N Nite" - Kid Cudi brought us a unique sound and style. He may not win this category this year, but something tells me we could see more nominations from him in the future.
- Lady GaGa - "Poker Face" - Lady GaGa is hands down the most impressive newcomer of the year. "Poker Face" is already a classic, and it should take home this victory in a walk.
- Asher Roth - "I Love College" - His appearance on the scene was notable, but Asher Roth's failure to find a true follow up to his first hit will hurt him in this category.
Video of the Year
- Beyonce - "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)" - That dance trio in black and white are simply unforgettable.
- Eminem - "We Made You" - Eminem looks tired and somewhat out of ideas here. This is probably the weakest of the five nominees.
- Lady GaGa - "Poker Face" - This video is very deserving of its nomination, but is still a rung below the expected winner.
- Britney Spears - "Womanizer" - Britney Spears looks sexy, funny and every bit one of the top pop stars in the world. This witty fast-paced clip would have to be considered the dark horse candidate for a win here.
- Kanye West - "Love Lockdown" - The song is powerful and some of the imagery is as well. However, too much of it raises questions about why it is there to make this a contender for the title of best of the year.
