They were seen as a competitor for the prominence of the Grammy Awards and broadcast on ABC television instead of the traditional Grammy broadcast on CBS. The American Music Awards has since grown in prominence and are notable as music awards that are voted on by fans.

13. MTV Europe Music Awards - November

The MTV Europe Music Awards were established in 1994 by the MTV Europe music channel. Originally the ceremony was created to honor achievement in music video in Europe. However, it has grown to be a more general celebration of achievement in European music. Most awards are selected by viewer voting.

14. World Music Awards - November

The World Music Awards were established in 1989 to recognize worldwide achievement in music. The awards are operated by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. The televised show is estimated to reach approximately one billion viewers around the world. Nominees and winners are based on worldwide music sales figures.
