In 2002 Paula DeAnda's family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas to help nurture her musical career. Corpus Christi is known as a hub of activity for aspiring musicians. There Paula met her manager Ed Ocanas of E.D.O. Entertainment. Pop Star:

In early 2006 "Doing Too Much," a song written with Baby Bash and produced by Happy Perez and Frankie J, began gaining radio airplay in south Texas. As the song began to break nationally, Wendy Goodman of Arista Records' promotions department reported on Paula DeAnda to Steve Ferrera, a senior vice-president at the label. This led to her singing for Ferrera, and he invited her to come back later in the day and sing for Clive Davis, the label's founder. She was instantly offered a recording deal by Davis and signed to his J Records label.

"Doing Too Much" reached the top 30 on the US pop singles chart. It was followed by a full-length self-titled album that includes production and songwriting work from such music industry heavyweights as Ne-Yo, Timbaland, Stargate, Lil' Wayne, and Diane Warren. The next single "Walk Away (Remember Me)" has climbed even higher on the charts.
