The MTV Video Music Awards have been presented every year since 1984. They have a reputation for being one of the most freewheeling and unpredictable of music awards shows. The MTV Video Music Awards are counted among the top music industry honors of the year.
The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards ceremony took place Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Last year the MTV Video Music Awards were held in August. This year they moved back to September.
