When the idea first came up for the Pussycat Dolls burlesque act to record music, few would have believed they would wind up with a #1 hit song. That's just what happened this week as the funky "Don't Cha" topples Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together." "Don't Cha" has already reached #1 in dance clubs. Waiting in the wings and rising from #5 to #3 is Rihanna's breakout hit "Pon De Replay."
Opening week sales for the Now That's What I Call Music! series dropped with the 17th and 18th collections, but this week the 19th set reversed the trend and sold over 430,000 copies to easily take the top spot in album sales. It becomes the 7th of 19 albums in the series to hit #1 on the album chart. Now! 19 includes some of this spring and summer's biggest hits including Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl," Will Smith's "Switch," and the Killers' "Mr. Brightside." By holding fairly steady in sales Mariah Carey rises back to the #2 slot with her album The Emancipation Of Mimi. It is now in its 15th week as a top 5 album. The Gorillaz' Demon Days climbs back into the top 10 on the heels of the breakout success of the single "Feel Good, Inc." and the boy band B5 land at #19 in the first week of release for their first album, also titled B5.
At radio Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" continues to be dominant. D.H.T.'s dance hit "Listen To Your Heart" climbs a notch to #4. Further down Gwen Stefani takes a healthy jump of 5 notches as "Cool" moves from #20 to #15.
