There may have been doubters when they first announced their plans, but both Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas and No Doubt's Gwen Stefani have proven they can make it solo. Thomas debuts this week at #1 on the pop albums chart with ..Something To Be, pushing Mariah Carey down to #2. Stefani notches her first solo #1 pop single with "Hollaback Girl," ending 50 Cent's run at the top.

Rob Thomas and Gwen Stefani also helped themselves elsewhere on the charts. Thomas' first single from the new album, "Lonely No More," rose back into the pop singles top 10 at a new peak of #7. Stefani's album Love, Angel, Music, Baby similarly got pushed further upward to its new peak of #6 after 22 weeks on the chart.

Coldplay's lead single, "Speed Of Sound," from their upcoming album X and Y opened at a phenomenal #8 on the singles chart. It is riding the top of Apple's iTunes music downloads chart. Look for a big first week of album sales in early June.

As we near the close of season 4, the latest American Idol single "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" is heading up the charts. All proceeds go to American Red Cross Tsunami Relief.
