Mariah Carey - Emancipation Of Mimi

The Emancipation Of Mimi

Nov 5 2006

In a relatively slow week for new album releases, Mariah Carey returns to the top of the albums chart for a second non-consecutive week while remaining on top of the singles chart. Gwen Stefani continues her hold on the peak of radio airplay as Mariah continues to gain.

On the day of broadcast of her onstage performance at the MTV Movie Awards, Mariah Carey lands at the top of both the pop albums and singles charts. Her phenomenal comeback album , now certified double platinum for sales of 2 million copies, holds off the #2 album, System Of a Down's Mesmerize. Gwen Stefani continues to show strong staying power with Love, Angel, Music, Baby climbing to its highest peak of #5 after over 6 months on the chart. The top debut album of the week, Don't Believe the Truth by Oasis, only manages to reach the #12 spot.

Over on the pop singles chart Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" easily maintains its grip on the top spot for a 3rd week. Pretty Ricky's "Grind With Me" makes a strong entry into the top 10. Mainstream pop radio stations continue to play Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" a bit more than "We Belong Together" which is lurking at #2.
