Boy bands appear to be in charge on this week's singles chart. Irish boy band Westlife earn their 13th pop #1 with "You Raise Me Up," and the Backstreet Boys debut in the top 10 with "Just Want You To Know," their latest. In other big news, legendary British chanteuse Kate Bush returns to the pop singles chart with "King Of the Mountain" at #4, her first new music in 12 years and her first top 10 hit in 19 years. Maximo Park's debut at #17 with "Apply Some Pressure" is actually a second tour for the song. It hit #20 last spring.

Comments

After a hiatus of 3 years, Robbie Williams continues his perfect record by releasing his 6th #1 album Intensive Care. None of his solo albums have failed to reach the top of the chart. In an otherwise quiet chart week, Destiny's Child enter at #6 with their greatest hits retrospective, and final album, #1's.

Best Bets For Next Week's Singles Chart

  • Eurythmics - I've Got a Life
Eurythmics have not had a top 10 pop hit in the UK since 1986, but there is good buzz behind this single from the upcoming Ultimate Collection compilation album.
  • Grand Unification - Fightstar
Ex-boy band member Charlie Simpson continues to explore post-grunge territory. Fightstar's last single reached #9 this summer.
  • Number 1 - Goldfrapp - More ultra-funky, sexy electropop from Alison and Will.
