"Hung Up," the preview single for Madonna's Confessions On a Dance Floor album debuts in the top spot of this week's singles chart. This is not a surprise considering all of the advance publicity, but it does become Madonna's 11th #1 in the UK putting her in 5th place on the all-time list. Westlife occupy the 4th spot all-time which means 2 of the 5 biggest artists of all time are occupying the top 2 pop singles spots this week. That is a rare occurrence. The 2 other top 5 debuts this week by Son of Dork and Simon Webbe involve former boy band stars. Son of Dork features James Bourne, formerly of Busted and Simon Webbe was a member of Blue.

You would be excused this week for thinking time is winding itself backward. Not only is Madonna on top of the singles chart, but 80's favorites Kate Bush and Eurythmics spend their opening week on the album chart in the top 5. The #1 debut belongs to Simon Cowell's so-called 'Popera' group Il Divo. It is their second straight #1 UK album.
