The Pussycat Dolls hold on to the top spot on the chart for a second week. They have now spent a total of 5 weeks at the top of the singles chart this year with the 3 weeks for "Don't Cha" this past summer. Madonna climbs back a notch to #2 meaning "Hung Up" has spent more time in the top 10 than any Madonna single since "Like a Prayer" in 1989. Sugababes have a strong followup to "Push the Button" at #3 and the Strokes get their first top 5 hit single with a #5 opening for "Juicebox."

Hot New Albums

  • #11 Girls Aloud - Chemistry

Comments

All of last week's top 5 remain in the top 5 with a late year chart pileup. The only change in the top 5 is a swapping of places by Madonna and Westlife. Girls Aloud have a rather disappointing opening. Their album Chemistry misses the top 10 after their previous album What Will the Neighbours Say? peaked at #6.

Best Bets For Next Week's Singles Chart

Heavy hitters start to arrive for the Christmas rush to the top.

  • Westlife and Diana Ross - When You Tell Me That You Love Me
This song went to #2 15 years ago for Diana Ross and hit U.S. pop charts earlier this year as sung by American Idol finalists. Now it is one of the clear favorites for Christmas #1 if it can stop the newly crowned X Factor victor.
  • Robbie Williams - Advertising Space
"Tripping," the first single from Williams' current Intensive Care album opened at a disappointing #2, but since then his album has taken up permanent residence in the top 5, he has set records for concert ticket sales, and Christmas is frequently good to Robbie.
  • Nizlopi - The JCB Song
According to the oddsmakers this folkie duo is in the running for Christmas #1. The single has had extensive online publicity since an initial release last summer.
