With the release of "SexyBack" for digital sales, Justin Timberlake soars from #12 all the way to the top of the pop singles chart this week. This is Justin's first #1 pop single in the U.S. His previous peak was #3 with "Cry Me a River." In only 3 weeks on the chart, Evanescence is knocking on the door of the top 10 with very strong pop radio support. The debut of Danity Kane's album at the top of the chart (see below) pulled 4 more cuts from the album on to the pop singles chart.

It was a race down to the wire, but Danity Kane shocked the music industry by crowding out Outkast for a #1 debut on the album chart. Still selling strongly, Christina Aguilera backed down to #3 and the Cheetah Girls demonstrated the staying power of kids' music this year. Just in case you were wondering, High School Musical is hanging on at #18 and Kidz Bop 10 is #25. This is quite a powerful showing for the kids music market. Paris Hilton's first album failed to impress debuting at a weak #6 even with months of publicity and a top 20 single.

It looks like Justin Timberlake is a man on a mission as he marches 2 notches closer to the top at #3. The remaining 4 top 5 hits from last week stay around with a bit of shuffling. The Pussycat Dolls hit the peak of radio airplay for the second time. "Buttons" follows their ballad "Stickwitu" to the top in pop radio airplay.
