Heading to the week of release for his album Graduation, Kanye West slides into the #2 spot on the pop singles chart this week. Pink gets her second top 5 pop hit from the album I'm Not Dead a full year and 5 months after the album's initial release. Matchbox Twenty visit the top 15 this week for the first time since 2003's "Unwell." Despite all of the MTV Video Music Awards controversy, it seems that Britney Spears has a new hit on her hands as "Gimme More" rises to #41 in its second week on the chart.

In a very slow week for sales, the High School Musical 2 holds on at the top for a 4th consecutive week. The last time that happened the hit album was 50 Cent's The Massacre in early 2005. Fergie's album The Dutchess climbs to #2, its highest peak yet. Amazingly, the album that yielded 4 #1 pop singles has never been to the top itself.

Comments

Kanye West now has his second top 10 pop radio hit. "Stronger" follows his first radio smash "Gold Digger." "Teenagers" is looking like a solid second single from The Black Parade for My Chemical Romance as it climbs into the top 25. Britney Spears has the hottest debut of the week, but "Gimme More" climbs in just ahead of the superstar duet of Rihanna and Ne-Yo.
