Beyonce hits the top this week and hopes to close out the year the way she entered it. "Check On It" started the year on top, and Ms. Knowles hopes that "Irreplaceable" finishes 2006 in the driver's seat. Avril Lavigne returns this week and flexes her chart muscle by opening at #20 with "Keep Holding On," the theme from the movie Eragon. Pop music fans in the US did not take Nelly Furtado's "Maneater" to heart the way UK fans did. "Maneater" only made it to #13 here, but, after only 5 weeks, "Say It Right" returns Furtado to the top 10. Justin Timberlake is looking for a 3rd #1 from FutureSex / LoveSounds as "What Goes Around Comes Around" debuts on the chart at #69.

In a slow week for new releases, the rock band Incubus manage their first #1 hit album. Jay-Z may have had a big opening week last week, but his latest album Kingdom Come tumbled clear to #6 in its second week on the chart. Chris Daughtry, on the other hand, shows some legs as his group's album Daughtry slips only one notch to #3 just behind the latest children's music monster, the Hannah Montana soundtrack.

Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" becomes the first single since Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" to be the biggest gainer in radio airplay 4 straight weeks. That was way back in early 2005. Beyonce is only at #5 on the radio, but she hits the top on the overall chart. That is just one sign of how big this single is. Fall Out Boy return to the radio top 40 this week with "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race," a song that adds a bit of r&b spice to the group's sound.
