Big Chart Movers

Hot New Singles

Comments

The U.S. pop singles chart is experiencing its usual Christmas/New Year holiday slowdown. The top 5 singles are exactly the same in exactly the same spots as last week. A bit further down it is a big week for the About Top 40 visitors' New Artist of the Year James Blunt. His first single "You're Beautiful" leaps 20 spots to #22 while his new U.K. single "Goodbye My Lover" shows up on the pop singles chart on this side of the Atlantic at #70.

Top 5 Pop Albums

  1. Eminem - Curtain Call: The Hits
  2. Lil' Wayne - Tha Carter II
  3. Korn - See You on the Other Side
  4. Various Artists - Now! That's What I Call Music! 20
  5. Carrie Underwood - Some Hearts

Hot New Albums

Comments

As expected, Eminem makes a very strong debut at the top of the pop chart. He is followed by rap star Lil' Wayne with his best sales performance yet and the venerable metal band Korn. Carrie Underwood is showing some staying power after a month on the chart, and Lindsay Lohan's album A Little More Personal (Raw) opens in disappointing fashion barely inside the top 20.

Best Bets For Next Week's Album Chart

  • Bo Bice - The Real Thing
Even though he was only the runner-up, Bo Bice managed to nearly match first single sales of American Idol champion Carrie Underwood. Now he follows her first album by a month and hopes to match her album chart performance.
  • Ludacris Presents Disturbing Tha Peace
Luda is pulling out a second album by his crew featuring a range of guest artists as well. This album should do well with the legions of fans of Southern rap.
  • Anthony Hamiton - Ain't Nobody Worryin'
Hamilton's fan base grows with each release. The 8 Grammy Award nominees for John Legend prove there is a place for a soulful singer like Hamilton.

Top 5 Pop Radio Songs

  1. Chris Brown - Run It! <Listen>
  2. Kelly Clarkson - Because Of You <Listen>
  3. Pussycat Dolls - Stickwitu <Listen>
  4. Nickelback - Photograph <Listen>
  5. Mariah Carey - Don't Forget About Us

Hot New Radio Songs

  • #43 Ne-Yo - So Sick
  • #45 Nelly - Grillz <Listen>

Comments

Mariah Carey heads back into the pop radio top 5 with "Don't Forget About Us." She has spent much of the last 9 months inside the top 5. Futher down the chart there is little movement except for a hot debut from Ne-Yo. He's a bit older than Chris Brown (22 vs. 16), but he will still have the girls swooning.
