It is intended to indicate the hottest rising hits. Recordings that have reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart are disqualified from this chart.

2. fun. - "Some Nights"

fun's "Some Nights" has followed the single "We Are Young" to #1 on the alternative songs chart. That makes fun. the first artist since Green Day and Alanis Morissette to top the alternative songs chart with their first two charting hits. "Some Nights" has also reached the top 5 on the rock songs chart.

3. Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen - "Good Time"

"Good Time" will be included on Owl City's upcoming album The Midsummer Station. Despite the upbeat nature of "Good Time," the album is expected to be darker and influenced by dreams and nightmares. The Midsummer Station is expected to hit stores August 21, 2012.

Cher Lloyd's debut album Sticks and Stones has sold over 200,000 copies and is certified gold at home in the UK after debuting on the album chart at #4. The album is set for a US release October 2, 2012 to compete in the Christmas purchasing season.

British singer-songwriter Alex Clare has earned his pop breakthrough with exposure from the use of his song in an Internet Explorer 9 series of commercials. Consequently the song has hit the charts across a variety of genres. It is a top 10 hit on the alternatives songs and rock songs charts while also reaching the top 40 on the dance and adult pop charts. "Too Close" is a top 10 pop hit in Germany.

"Settle Down" is the first single from No Doubt's upcoming comeback album Push and Shove. It is already a top 20 hit at alternative, rock, and adult pop radio. No Doubt began recording the album in May of 2010. It is set for release September 25, 2012.

Grouplove came together as a music act in 2010. The song "Tongue Tied" was used in commercials for the iPod Touch in 2011. Soon the song began slowly climbing music charts. It has reached #1 on the alternative songs chart and #3 at rock radio. It is also a top 20 hit at adult pop radio. "Tongue Tied" has been certified gold for digital sales.

10. Neon Trees - "Everybody Talks"

In the official music video for "Everybody Talks," Neon Trees are at a drive-in watching a film titled Zombie Bikers From Hell. In the film itself they also appear and are attacked in a cabin by a group of zombie bikers. In July "Everybody Talks" became Neon Trees second platinum certified single.
