Gotye, aka Wally De Backer, was born in Belgium and his family moved to Australia when he was 2. He received strong public and critical acclaim in Australia for his second album Like Drawing Blood released in 2006. His third album Making Mirrors was released in 2011 and soared to #1 on the strength of "Somebody That I Used To Know." This song is his first international hit, and it has topped pop singles charts around the world.
2. Madonna - "Give Me All Your Luvin'" featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.
"Give Me All Your Luvin'" is Madonna's first single from the upcoming twelfth studio album MDNA. The song was co-produced by Martin Solveig. "Give Me All Your Luvin'" was performed live as part of Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show. A remix by LMFAO has been released.
3. Gym Class Heroes - "Ass Back Home" featuring Neon Hitch
Gym Class Heroes first came together in 1997 when vocalist Travie McCoy met drummer Matt McGinley in high school gym class. The group was signed to Decaydance, the label started by Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, in 2003. Gym Class Heroes now have three top 40 pop hit singles.
4. The Wanted - "Glad You Came"
The effort to export boy band the Wanted from the UK is successful thus far. Back home in the UK "Glad You Came" was the group's fourth top 3 hit single. It went all the way to #1 and was certified gold. Since then The Wanted have hit #2 with their fifth big hit "Lightning." Both albums by The Wanted have hit the top 5 in the UK.
5. fun - "We Are Young"
"We Are Young" by the indie pop band fun was first released back in September 2011. It made a dent on the alternative songs chart and then, in December, a version on Glee helped pull "We Are Young" on to the Billboard Hot 100. It was ranked as one of the top 30 songs of 2011 here. Now, a Chevy Sonic ad at the Super Bowl has given "We Are Young" a third chart surge.
6. Pitbull - "International Love" featuring Chris Brown
This is the first of two appearances for Chris Brown in this week's list of the 10 hottest songs. It is also Pitbull's ninth top 40 pop hit as lead artist. "International Love" is also becoming an international hit landing in the top 10 in Canada, France, New Zealand, Poland, and the UK.
7. LMFAO - "Sorry For Party Rocking"
LMFAO made a splash accompanying Madonna at the Super Bowl. "Sorry For Party Rocking" is already a top 40 pop hit in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. LMFAO are reportedly working on a music video to accompany the song.
8. Train - "Drive By"
"Drive By" is already a top 20 adult pop hit for the band Train. It is the first single from an upcoming sixth studio album by the band. Their most recent album Save Me, San Francisco was a top 20 hit and has been certified gold.
9. Chris Brown - "Turn Up the Music"
"Turn Up the Music" is the first single from Chris Brown's upcoming album Fortune. The song will not be available for purchase until February 13, 2012, but it is climbing the pop charts on the strength of pop radio airplay. "Turn Up the Music" was co-produced by the Underdogs and German producer Fuego.
10. Gavin DeGraw - "Not Over You"
"Not Over You" is Gavin DeGraw's first #1 adult pop hit song. It is also the second biggest pop hit single of his career so far. "Not Over You" has been certified platinum for sales.
