Top 10 Hot Singles August 30, 2005

By , About.com Guide

These are the hottest 10 pop songs of the week as determined by About Top 40. This chart is compiled consulting data from various music industry charts and sources. It is intended to indicate the hottest rising hits. Recordings that have reached the top 10 of the Billboard Pop 100 chart are disqualified from this chart.

1. Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends

Never underestimate the power of an outstanding music video. With extensive free distribution throughout the Internet, music videos are making a comeback as a promotional vehicle for pop music, and the smash success of Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is proof of the fact. The mini-movie by director Samuel Bayer and 6 MTV Video Music Awards help make Green Day's latest the hottest song this week.

2. Kelly Clarkson - Because Of You

The style of Kelly Clarkson's latest is a radical contrast to the massive hits "Since U Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes," but her fans seem to follow her anywhere. "Because Of You" is an emotional tune originally written by Clarkson as a teenager.

3. Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Goin' Down

The momentum continues to build behind Fall Out Boy. A rousing performance showing off their powerful live energy before the MTV Video Music Awards should continue to build their popularity.

4. Black Eyed Peas - My Humps

This is the first week since this chart began that one artist has been responsible for two of the top 10 songs. "My Humps" is the edgier, hip hop alternative to the Black Eyed Peas' "Don't Lie." Don't be surprised if both of these hits are in Billboard's pop top 10 within weeks.

5. Hilary Duff - Wake Up

Last week was a great one for Hilary Duff. Her new album Most Wanted debuted at the top of the pop albums chart and "Wake Up" was the top debut on the pop singles chart. It's already her biggest hit single yet. Can she maintain the momentum?

6. Black Eyed Peas - Don't Lie

"Don't Lie" is one step away from the pop top 10, so this is likely its last week on this chart. However, we may be following the Black Eyed Peas' "My Humps" (above) for a few more weeks.

7. Gorillaz - Feel Good, Inc.

Gorillaz, everyone's favorite cartoon band of the moment, embarked on a virtual tour of online Habbo Hotels this week. Look for the excitement surrounding the band to build as their next single "Dare" comes out this week.

8. Mariah Carey - Shake It Off

The momentum is cooling a bit, but "Shake It Off" still looks like another smash hit for Mariah Carey. It does have a powerful act to follow, however, as "We Belong Together" is now one of the top 10 longest reigning #1 hits on Billboard's Hot 100 ever.

9. Bow Wow featuring Ciara - Like You

Bow Wow and Ciara are a dating couple, and "Like You" is their thoroughly charming celebration of each other.

10. Nickelback - Photograph

This single precedes the release of Nickelback's upcoming All the Right Reasons album. The band is still looking for the true hit followup to "How You Remind Me."
