These are the hottest 10 pop songs of the week as determined by About Top 40. This chart is compiled consulting data from various music industry charts and sources. It is intended to indicate the hottest rising hits. Recordings that have reached the top 10 of the Billboard Pop 100 chart are disqualified from this chart.
1. Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah
Plain White T's will spend much of this summer performing concerts at amusement parks and shopping malls.
2. Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls
It seems that music is in Sean Kingston's blood. His uncle is reggae artist Buju Banton, and his grandfather, Jack Ruby, produced records for reggae legends Bob Marley and Burning Spear.
3. Amy Winehouse - Rehab
First Prince effusively praised Amy Winehouse. Now Elton John has referred to her as "the world's most talented female singer."
4. Gwen Stefani - 4 in the Morning
Gwen Stefani recently told the media that if her musical career ever came to an end, she would happily return to one of her previous jobs, being a makeup artist.
5. Timbaland featuring Keri Hilson - The Way I Are
Just as a new single was hitting the charts, Timbaland was arrested last weekend in Germany after he reportedly assaulted a man following a verbal altercation.
6. Fall Out Boy - Thnks fr th Mmrs
Timbaland isn't the only pop star to engage in a physical dust-up this past week. Fall Out Boy bass player Pete Wentz was reportedly involved in a situation early this morning outside the Chicago club Schuba's. Wentz claims he was grabbed by a man who had earlier heckled the band, and he threw a punch in self defense. This led to a swiftly degenerating situation, but it is not clear if any charges were filed.
7. Boys Like Girls - The Great Escape
A healthy dose of media hyperbole greeted the release of Boys Like Girls' first album last August. However, sales were very disappointing. Nearly a year later the band are finally beginning to break into the pop mainstream with their first hit single.
8. Paula DeAnda featuring Bow Wow - Easy
The original album version of Paula DeAnda's "Easy" included Lil Wayne as the guest rapper. The version hitting the charts is a remix that features Bow Wow.
9. Elliott Yamin - Wait for You
As Elliott Yamin continues his climb up the pop singles chart, it appears that the final placing of the top contenders in any particular season of American Idol is more and more irrelevant.
10. Lloyd - Get It Shawty
Singer Lloyd has approximately 20 tattoos on his body. These include a picture of his father.
