Shakira is one of the world's top pop stars. She is equally successful on singles and album charts. Details on all of her studio albums from the breakthrough Pies Descalzos forward.

Pies Descalzos (1996)

This is the album that broke Shakira internationally in Latin music circles. After two local Colombian albums, this was her first released on a major label. The lead single "Estoy Aqui" reached #2 on the US Latin pop chart. The album went on to hit #5 on the US Latin chart and was a major success throughout the Spanish-speaking world.

Donde Estan los Ladrones (1998)

As a result of the success of Pies Descalzos, Shakira was given more money, personnel, and studio time to prepare her follow up. It did not disappoint fans or critics. Donde Estan los Ladrones earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Rock Album. The song "Octavo Dia" won a Latin Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal and "Ojos Asi" won a Latin Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal. Donde Estan los Ladrones topped the Latin Album chart in the US and broke into the overall album chart at #131.

MTV Unplugged (2000)

Shakira continued her momentum with this live set from MTV's critically celebrated series Unplugged. All of the songs were in Spanish, but the placement on MTV successfully introduced her to a large English-speaking audience. With strong critical acclaim, she once again topped the Latin pop album chart and earned her first Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album. Shakira's MTV Unplugged has sold more than five million copies worldwide.

Laundry Service (2001)

Shakira's first English-language album was a worldwide success. Cuban-American star Gloria Estefan encouraged Shakira to record in English thinking she had potential to make a major crossover into the English-language pop market. Although primarily a pop album, Laundry Service incorporates elements of Middle Eastern, rock, and Andean folk music. 

The lead single "Whenever, Wherever" became Shakira's first pop hit in the US peaking at #6. It went to #1 in many other countries around the world, and the Spanish language version "Suerte" hit #1 on the Latin pop chart. The follow up "Underneath Your Clothes" was another top 10 pop hit. Laundry Service peaked at #3 on the US album chart and has sold more than three million copies in the US alone.

Grandes Exitos (2002)

Sony wrapped up many of the key tracks from Shakira's pre-Laundry Service albums as a greatest hits collection for her Spanish-speaking fans. It also includes Spanish versions of the Laundry Service hits "Whenever, Wherever" and "Objection (Tango)." Grandes Exitos became Shakira's third #1 hit on the US Latin album chart.

Fijacion Oral, Vol. 1 (2005)

After 4 years without a new studio release, Shakira decided to package her latest work in two separate collections. The first volume is entirely in Spanish. The album was an instant smash and included "La Tortura," one of the biggest Latin pop hits of all time. A collaboration with Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz, "La Tortura" topped the Latin radio chart for a phenomenal 25 weeks and even peaked at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100, a rare performance for a Spanish-language song. It earned Latin Grammy awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

The album Fijacion Oral, Vol. 1 earned strong critical acclaim. It topped the Latin album chart and reached #4 on the overall album chart, a particularly strong showing for a Spanish-language album. The album earned a Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock Album and the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year.

Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 (2005)

Shakira's second English-language studio album was another artistic triumph. It received acclaim as her best work yet. Commercially, the album was less successful than Laundry Service only rising to #5 on the album chart, but the inclusion of a new single "Hips Don't Lie" turned it into a major hit all over again five months after the album's initial release. "Hips Don't Lie" was a huge international success reaching #1 on the pop singles chart in more than 50 countries including the US. Many see it as Shakira's signature song, and it is one of the bestselling pop songs of all time worldwide.

She Wolf (2009)

For her first studio album in four years, Shakira experimented with electropop to mixed success. She worked with producers The Neptunes (including Pharrell Williams), Timbaland, and Wyclef Jean among others. The title single "She Wolf" peaked at #11 on the US pop chart and hit #1 on the dance chart. However, some saw it as a commercial failure after the success of "Hips Don't Lie." The album only reached #15 on the album chart.

Sale el Sol (2010)

Shakira returned to her Latin rock roots for the album Sale el Sol. It followed on the heels of Shakira's success with her World Cup song "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)." She introduced the sound of merengue to Sale el Sol and collaborated with rapper Pitbull. It was released to strong critical acclaim and commercial success. Sale el Sol returned Shakira to the top 10 on the US album chart while reaching #1 in Spanish speaking countries around the world.

Three songs including the #1 hit "Loca" reached the top 10 on the US Latin pop chart. Sale el Sol earned a Latin Grammy award for Female Pop Vocal Album.

Shakira (2014)

For her tenth album, Shakira once again recorded in English. The release of the collection was delayed from 2012 due to the birth of Shakira's first child. The album earned critical praise as well as commercial success. The lead single "Can't Remember To Forget You" was a collaboration with Rihanna that included elements of reggae. It returned Shakira to the top 20 on the US pop singles chart for the first time since "She Wolf" in 2009. The song "Dare (La La La)" was adapted for use as a 2014 World Cup song. The album reached #2 on the US album chart, the highest chart position of Shakira's career.
