The Bottom Line
"Super Bass" is Nicki Minaj at her catchiest yet. With the assistance of Ester Dean on songwriting and backing vocals, there is an effervescent lightness to the song which will make it very appealing to pop audiences. Clearly a man has caught Nicki Minaj's eye, but she is not wanting to swoon too easily.

Guide Review - Nicki Minaj - "Super Bass"
There is a jaunty, bouncing opening figure followed by extended rapping that shows off the celebrated vocal talent of Nicki Minaj. However, it is when that chorus kicks in that "Super Bass" is lifted to the status of outstanding pop song. The "boom badoom boom, boom badoom boom" instantly sinks into the head urging you to sing along. When the song returns to the rapped verse it is another lesson in the Nicki Minaj skill. She doesn't simply rap the words with rhythmic power. She manages to masterfully manipulate the mood and the meaning of the words through shifts in emphasis, intonation and phrasing. Nicki Minaj raps in a rapid-fire conversational manner.
Reportedly, if it wasn't for Taylor Swift, "Super Bass" may not be now climbing the charts. The song made its first appearance as a bonus track on the deluxe release of Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday album. Taylor Swift made a radio show appearance and professed her love for the song following that with performing a bit of the song herself. That event got the ball rolling in a direction that resulted in the release of "Super Bass" as a single.
"Super Bass" carries a light, breezy tone that makes it a perfect summer song. Nicki Minaj has landed four other singles inside the pop top 40, two of those reaching platinum sales, but she has not yet reached the top 10. Look for "Super Bass" to correct this and become the biggest Nicki Minaj hit single yet.
