The Bottom Line
While, without a doubt, the will.i.am collaboration "OMG" has been a powerful smash hit for Usher topping the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks, the rest of the singles off the album Raymond V. Raymond haven't fared as well. It looks like in an effort to move Usher back up the pop charts a seven song EP most likely left over from the Raymond V. Raymond sessions has been announced. The EP is titled Versus, and "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" is the first pop release from the project, and who better to endear Usher again to pop audiences than producer Max Martin?

- Pitbull's rap sounds tossed on as a commercial gimmick
- Written by K.S.Martin,Shellback,S.Kotecha, and A.C.Perez

Guide Review - Usher - "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" featuring Pitbull
It looks like the Max Martin pop hit streak will continue with this song. With similar synth sounds to those animating "California Gurls" kicking things off, "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" is a smooth, easy club tune that could take Usher clear back to the top of the pop charts. The song has a big big chorus and Usher sings it with appropriate passion.
For those looking for something new or unique, however, "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" pales by comparison with "OMG." There is a faceless, corporate element to the whole picture here. Even the guest appearance from rapper Pitbull feels obligatory as he is already near the top of the charts assisting Enrique Iglesias on "I Like It." If the content of the EP Versus and its grab bag of songwriters and producers is a set of leftovers from Raymond V. Raymond, it can be understood why this track is one of them.
Usher is looking for new definition as an artist. There is the mature showman of "OMG," the return to sexy lover man of the current single "There Goes My Baby," and now "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" is the somewhat faceless club singer with an engaging chorus. Usher very clearly has the vocal chops, looks and showmanship he has always demonstrated. However, cohesion and definition are not strengths in his repertoire at this point in his career. "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" may bring him another hit single, but it contains no revelations or deepening of our understanding of Usher the artist.
