The Bottom Line
If you want an uplifting pop song with the beat structure of "I Love College" by new rapper Asher Roth, I highly recommend revisiting John Mayer's stellar "Waiting on the World to Change." If, on the other hand, you wish to wallow in a song most comprehensible, and one would expect less cynical sounding, when intoxicated, stick with Asher Roth. Gimmicky exploitation of bored college students seems the primary goal here.

Cons

- Boring without intoxication
- Air of cynicism

Guide Review - Asher Roth - "I Love College"
It would be easier to get offended by the sentiment of "I Love College" if the song itself weren't so dull. The joys of alcohol, naked women, and dollar pizza slices are celebrated in a wish to be a college student for life. I can see a few laughs with beer in hand as cynical college students listen to their life being mocked, but a few times through and the song is incessantly boring. "I Love College" is best tossed to the musical scrap heap from which it came.
A debut album by white rapper Asher Roth, Asleep in the Bread Aisle, is due to follow in stores April 20, 2009. The collection will go a long way toward telling whether Roth is an artist of interest, or simply a forgettable artist cashing in on alcohol, cynicism, and gimmickry.
