The Bottom Line
If any current pop musician deserves a reward for pure durability and commitment to her fans, it's Ashlee Simpson. She has faced her fair share of adversity and continues to move forward with a grueling touring schedule, expansion of her musical horizons, and steadfast devotion to her personal muse. Although "Invisible" is her first single that she didn't write, it fits her musically like a glove. It is perhaps her best single to date.

Guide Review - Ashlee Simpson - Invisible
Ashlee Simpson released "Invisible" quietly as a non-album single early in the summer 2006, but it instantly earned attention from young pop music fans with its lyrical focus on emerging from a state of invisibility. So far ignored by pop radio, the song, accompanied by an attention-getting video featuring Simpson as a female boxer, has reached the top of the daily countdown chart on MTV's TRL. It has also fared well in digital download sales via iTunes. Pop radio is likely to feel pressure soon to add the song.
"Invisible" is the first single released by Ashlee Simpson that she did not have a hand in writing. However, her producer Ron Fair introduced the song and believed it fit Simpson's style. He was absolutely correct. The song fits like a glove. Ashlee Simpson's pleasing, slightly blue, rasp brings out the emotions in the song turning what could be a forgettable tune into one that quickly sticks in the brain. Whether or not you are an Ashlee Simpson fan, you are likely to find yourself singing along.
Due at least in part to the success of "Invisible," a re-release of Ashlee Simpson's second album I Am Me including the new hit is in the works. For now, it is time for pop music fans that have spent more than a year and a half scorning Ashlee Simpson to welcome her back to the fold. She has proven herself as a solid pop singer-songwriter as well as interpreter of the works of others.
